Nearly 5,000 visitors consisting of high school students, postgraduate students, teachers, parents, job seekers and those seeking professional development were in attendance at this year’s Gold Coast Careers Expo held on the 27th and 28th of July at the Carrara Indoor Stadium.

The assortment among those in attendance was one of many features that exhibitors were pleased to discover according to Andrew Pevats, Manager of Employment and Recruitment at the Australian Technical College.

“On behalf of the Australian Technical College – Gold Coast, I would like to thank StudyGoldCoast for their effort in organising the Gold Coast Careers Expo, which was a big success for us. The positive aspects of the event included a good variety of attendees over two days, the flow of display booths working well and the schools’ participation being well organized with genuine interest,” said Mr.Pevats.

Thank you to all the exhibitors and attendees who made the expo a success. Don't forget, it's never too early to start planning for next year! For more information, please contact (07) 5591 3322.

Australian Homestay Network- AHN

StudyGoldCoast has been operating since 1994. A Strategic alliance has been formed between AHN (Australian Homestay Network) and StudyGoldCoast who have become AHN’s first foundation year member. This will provide a more improved Homestay program and extend services to both students and Homestay families.

This is an exciting year as we are about to begin system training and testing. A lot of thought has gone into how to best bring new organisations onto the system, and we thought we should document the process here to give everyone a better idea of what’s in store.

In the first phase of training we will have staff members take on the role of a Homestay Host or Student so that they can run through and understand the flow of the system from the perspective of the users they will be supervising. This will also provide them with the opportunity to test out the system by creating different problem scenarios to see how the system handles them.

After new users have completed the student/host flow up until placement we will reverse the roles and have them be supervisors within a dummy organisation we have set up on the system for training purposes. AHN staff will then create a series of Hosts and Students and run them through the flow while generating as many pre-placement issues that we can come up with. This will provide new users with an understanding of how a supervisor manages their operations using the system, including task delegation and incident management.
